Happy Birthday to Me?
Couldn't fall asleep last night and finally drifted off at 6am. Woke up repeatedly in the morning to various calls from telemarketers. No I'm really not interested in a mastercard, but thank you. I don't understand that even if I'm half awake that I insist on being pleasant to telemarkers. Has it been brainwashed into me that it’s rude to hang-up on people? After six restless hours I got out of bed and started my day. I got an extremely cute e-card from Melanie and a happy bday email from dad. Even with these perks I’m not feeling overly that excited about my transition into my 23rd year. I’m having a bit of It’s my birthday and I’ll cry if I want to syndrome. I really have to go out and make some friends. My plans for this evening…apply to some jobs online, watch TV and maybe, just maybe I’ll cut loose and go buy some Ruffles bbq chips (my diet nemesis). Truly very sad. When did my life get this boring? Happy Birthday to Me...

Back to the Grind
After my three week hiatus from jogging, I donned my sneakers and headed back to the trail. Man, the pain that was my jog today is definitely punishment for not keeping it up. Brutal. It was my first jog since I cut my hair short (4 hour hair appt. to fix the pink hair disaster) and I definitely need to buy a headband or something. Wind is impossible. Another note to self – Wear shorts in the summer! I never think about it and then get all overheated. Jogging next to the canal has its advantages and it always makes me feel like I want to dive right in or at least splash my face with water. But remembering the rash the frosh kids get every year from jumping in the canal I think I’ll pass. Eww.

Rain, rain, go away! Come again another day….

It has been an eventful and an uneventful couple of weeks. I went to visit my parents in Sudbury for 5 days….and as I’m unemployed and it didn’t really matter I ended up staying another 4 days. With good intentions I brought my running gear, but I found myself not that much motivated to get out and run while visiting. Although there was a great deal of dog walking. And boy did it rain there; 9 straight days of rain. And then the rain followed me back to Ottawa; 2 more days of rain. I then headed to Kingston to see my good friend Megan graduate from the Royal Military College. The rain followed. It rained on her parade, literally. I hate Rain. I see all those extremely motivated people running in the rain, or the snow or hail storm and I have to say I’m really not enough of a running buff to do it.

More Donations!

I came home from my various travels to find donations in the mail from my second phase of fundraising letters. Five donations in all, totaling almost $500!! Thank you very much for your help and your kind words.

Okay, you got me. I admit that my training goal was a bit much. I had heard that if you do something 21 days in a row it becomes a habit so I decided that running could apply to this rule. Not necessarily running hard everyday because I’m just a beginner, but just to get into a routine. So I lasted ummmm 5 days. Oh dear. I went a few too many days in a row and hurt my shin and then it rained and I’m a wuss lol. So that’s the end of that. I’m hoping to get out 3 times a week from now on. Walking is just boring.

So at the travel show I went to last weekend with Charles I entered a bunch of contests and some of the booths. So a couple days ago I got a call from one of them saying I had won a trip to florida/bahamas. Yay? Obviously I was suspicious. One, there were people in the background talking like a call center. Two, they wouldn’t talk to me about it until I could get my “common-law” partner on the line too. Well Charles wasn’t in, so they said they would call back…hummmm. Yesterday they called back, exact same script, hummmm, and I was getting annoyed and I confronted the guy what all this was about and he hung up on me!!! Interesting. Today another woman called me about my “free trip.” They decided since my common-law partner, who they were now calling Chris for some reason, wasn’t in that I would do. (I'm kind of insulted by that actually) I let her explain the whole thing as I’m unemployed and really have nothing better to do with my time…so yes you can have a trip to Florida if you get yourself there. Oh also there is a 300us/person “promotional fee” and then another 146us/person “promotional fee” for someone else. LOL oh AND you had had to decide right this minute because if you call back you had to pay the full amount 2450us/person. Oh priceless. First, I look up the website they give me; it's acutally a golfing website in France. So I looked up “Great Vacations Destination” on google and found a guy who actually accepted their terms. Click Here to read his story if you’re interested. Travel Smart.

Received another donation in the mail today from long time friends the Kozlich's. Thanks guys. They also sent a nice note and the picture to the left. Is it a frog or a horse? I sent out some more donation request letters today. "Phase Two." So I am hoping for some more donations soon. Thanks again! I am one step closer to my $6100 goal!
Good news! The Ottawa Rideau Canal has been flooded! Now I won’t have to look at a muddy empty canal on my runs. Excellent. There were tons of people out today on the path. Mostly bikers and roller-bladers. It was a Hot day today, well for spring anyways 22C. I really should invest in some running shorts! I was so overheated I wanted to jump in the canal!

Day three of my three week training goal. Took it easy today, ran 2Km and walked 3Km. I can’t run full out everyday or I think I would have to buy a huge bottle of A535 (muscle rub). Tomorrow is an easy day, mostly likely just a walk and then I hope to push myself on Wednesday and see what I can do.
